Traditional use:
Ayahuasca vine is one of the two key ingredients in the Ayahuasca brew (the other plant is for example Chacruna).
The name is also used for the miracle brew drank for centuries by the indigenous tribes of the Amazon rainforest to treat mental and physical illnesses. The ayahuasca vine is called a Master Plant and is used in the traditional plant diets (process similar to micro dosing).
Some indigenous tribes in the Amazon rainforest still use it without any other plants in their Ayahuasca brew. It has been also reported multiple times that even just by itself, on higher dosages it still creates visionary experiences, which explains why the brews name comes from the vine and not from the DMT containing plant.
Science:
Consumption:
This mix is the final Ayahuasca brew mixture, it contains DMT, Harmine and Harmaline. Harmine is a natural β-carboline alkaloid. Preclinical studies suggest that harmine may have neuroprotective and cognitive-enhancing effects, and retrospective/observational investigations of the mental health of long-term ayahuasca users suggest that prolonged use of this harmine-rich hallucinogen is associated with better neuropsychological functioning and nerve cell growth, which brings potential for healing different kinds dementia. The DMT is the strongest psychedelic known to man. Should be used with respect and for healing purposes only.
After consumption the effects can be felt after 30 min to 1 hour, then it can continue for a few hours. Using just the vine alone contributes to less visual and more cleansing effects of the medicine.
